FAQs: Communication for People Managers

What is the Communication for People Managers Skill4Change® Workshop?

This Skills4Change® Workshop helps existing and potential people managers understand how to use the unique skill of change communication with their teams. They will learn what to communicate, how best to deliver a message, interact with their team, and what to do if they don't have all the required information.

Who is it for?

The Skills4Change® Workshop is recommended for any person who manages a team and who…

  • Is tasked to lead their team through an organisational change or departmental change
  • Has little or no experience in managing a team who are impacted by a change
  • Wants to understand how change communication differs from everyday operational communication
  • Would like to feel more confident and equipped when communicating changes that impacts their team

How is it delivered?

This Skills4Change® Workshop is offered in-house for organisations who have group of 10-16 People Managers. Get in touch if you'd like to know more or if you would like do discuss an option for in-house.

Is it virtual or Face to Face?

Both options are now available.

When delivering virtually, we will deliver this via Zoom or using a platform that might be more suitable for your organisation.

Each participant will be asked to bring:

  • A Laptop or computer with access to MS Office.
  • A strong internet connection - we recommend that participants use an Ethernet cable if their Wi-Fi connectivity is unstable.
  • A copy of their pre-work.

We also recommend using a headset with a built-in microphone and encourage participants to join our virtual classroom via webcam if possible.

What is the Format?

This is a one-day workshop. During the workshop, there will be a lot of interaction and timed breakout sessions, contextualising and hands on completion of ready to use templates to take away and put into practice in the real world.

What is the Communication toolkit?

As part of this Skills4Change® Workshop, each participant will be given access to the online CMC Communication toolkit, which has the materials needed to support them on the course and the Communication templates, for them to use during and after the course on their own projects (subject to the terms of the CMC individual User License).

Is there Pre-work?

Yes, but just a little. There are three small pieces of pre-work. Firstly, there is a short exercise to complete via a short questionnaire that demonstrates the participants dominant communication style. We also ask participants to think about a real change example that resonates with them and bring that change idea to the workshop to explore. Finally, we ask participants to read a short case study, provided in their toolkit, that is referenced throughout the workshop.

What’s the cost?

Please get in touch and we’ll explore the cost with you.

What do I walk away with?

In addition to leaving the Skills4Change® Workshop with your newly found knowledge and skills, you will also take away many tools and templates you'll have become familiar with during the sessions, including your Skills4Change® workbook, comprehensive communication plan template and other useful, ready-to-use assets to enable you to put your new communication for people managers skills into practice. You’ll also be issued a digital badge for you to add to your CV and share with your colleagues via Linked in.
