'I've been on millions of courses - Prosci® was the most enjoyable'
Prosci® Practitioner Training aims to equip participants with the necessary tools to effectively manage the people side of change when they return to the workplace – and that’s exactly what it does, as one CMC Associate testifies.
Kyra, a programme support officer and business analyst working for a central government department, attended a three day Prosci® Practitioner Training Course delivered by CMC Partnership in May 2011. Other participants came from a range of backgrounds, she says, bringing a variety of experience and expertise to learn from and share with one another.
Kyra had previously dealt with change in her work, but the Prosci® training provided a structured framework for addressing and managing each component of change: “It formulates it all into one place – you come out of the training armed with this great toolset.” The Prosci® approach comprehensively evaluates the effects of change on all organisational stakeholders. “It helps you to recognise the impact change is having on people and in business areas that’s not always immediately apparent,” she says.
The greatest impact of the training on her work, though, was increasing her confidence, Kyra says: “Before the course, I wasn’t a fan of workshops, probably because I didn’t have the confidence to run them.” Now, workshops are routinely part of Kyra’s approach to business change.
Workshops have been invaluable in helping her to manage change more smoothly. On a recent project in preparation for a national event, change workshops were crucial, she says, “getting people who swam against the tide to swim with you. For the first time we had everyone from all the different business areas in one room, raising issues that had previously gone unnoticed and interdependencies affected by change that can directly damage productivity if not carefully mitigated and managed." As time went on, the workshops “became more like meetings as everyone got to know each other, meaning we could work together effectively to take decisions and feel engaged in the change process”.
Above all, she says, Prosci® training is about providing you with the skills you need to manage change:
“I’ve been on millions of courses, some have been good, some have been bad. Prosci® was the most enjoyable. The most positive thing is that it’s not just about passing a course, it’s about being able to confidently execute business change. For some other methodologies, it’s about the exam, and not your level of knowledge and understanding. Prosci® is the exact opposite. It’s about making sure you have the practical skills to apply once you’re back in the workplace.”
