Helping Ordnance Survey be successful in the 22nd century market for real time geospatial data
With a legacy of 225 years of history and a well-loved brand as the UK’s National Mapping Agency, the challenge is to transform the business to compete internationally in a geospatial market increasingly dominated by Google and Microsoft. The starting point was limited company status, in anticipation of a significant reduction in government involvement. Now a strategy has been agreed to take the brand to a global market and replatform the world’s largest geospatial database.
The CMC team is helping the Ordnance Survey leadership team to design and mobilise a programme that will be truly transformational for the company. It will repurpose the organisation to operate commercially on a global basis, as well as reengineer their technology platform and geospatial content. We have also set up a Programme Management Office (PMO), including reporting and control arrangements under a new Executive Programme Board. Our programme managers are working closely with senior OS business managers to scope and plan the key workstreams, before finalising the programme plan. The next phase of our work will be to help Ordnance Survey recruit a suitably qualified programme delivery team, transfer skills and manage a phased exit.
